Janey's last boot camp, at the Kansas University campus
in Lawrence, drew more than 60 new dancers.
Please note: Registering for the boot camp includes admission for both Saturday and Sunday - you can attend one or both days!
OK, so maybe we can't teach you everything there is to learn about this sensual dance in one weekend, but we can certainly show you some of the basics and get you started having a great time with Argentine tango. For the first time, Spring Fling Tango Thing features a special beginners' bootcamp with all the fun of the rest of the festival!
Come learn this popular, versatile social dance in a comfortable, relaxed and open environment. No partner or experience needed ? just a willingness to try new things! Your instructor, Janey Smith, will walk you through the basics, show you a few fun moves and answer any questions you might have about when, where and how to continue your tango education.
The Essentials
- No partner necessary. Bring one if you'd like, but don't fret if you don't.
- Wear comfortable clothes. Feel free to get glammed up, or come in jeans and a T-shirt; whatever makes you feel comfortable and, dare we say it ... sexy.
- Shoes are important. That's not to say that you need Expensive Dance Shoes, but do be sure to wear something with smooth soles, preferably leather or suede; grippy shoes make it tough to pivot! (Or, skip the shoes altogether and wear fuzzy socks.) Make sure your shoes stay on your feet easily (no flip-flops, mules or slingbacks) so that you can walk backwards.
- Be ready to have fun and meet new people!
