Adam & Ciko

...are unique to the North American, and especially to New York, tango scene.

They have had the opportunity to study with teachers from all over the world, who come from very different ideologies, which has allowed and fostered their own approach and character of dance. Their dance has evolved by blending these outside influences they had with their own personal growth as a couple.

Their style is defined by its sensuality, musicality & creative playfulness.

They emphasize the importance of a good technique with a comfortable, musical walk over complicated moves. Their goal as teachers is to bring their students’ personality out in their dance by teaching them the music and the concept of countless possibilities the dance offers. They cannot over emphasize the value of active followers which makes the dance much more interactive and fun. When teaching they are able to transmit their mastery of the complex concepts of tango while retaining their innate humor and humility.

They have both worked across US, Canada and Europe teaching workshops and at festivals. Ciko has performed and worked with powerful leaders such as Adam Hoopengardner, Felipe Martinez, Robin Thomas, Evan Griffiths and Daniel Tuero.  Adam has performed and worked with some of todays leading ladies of tango including Cigdem Tanik, Brigitta Winkler, Rebecca Shulman, Silvina Valz and Luiza Paes.

Avik Basu

Avik is driven by the belief that a little dance and music can make the world a better place. And so, he dances tango, DJs, plays bandoneon, organizes workshops, learns spanish, and will even drink mate despite the fact he otherwise avoids caffeine. Perhaps most of all, he enjoys sharing the beauty of tango with others. His instruction over the past 5 years has helped to develop the Ann Arbor tango community into one of the largest in North America.

Avik specializes in teaching social tango emphasizing connection, musicality, and improvisation. He has come to be known for his clear explanations which expose the core of any tango idea whether it be about movement or musicality. In addition to his regular classes in Ann Arbor, he has taught all over North America and beyond. Some of the more interesting tango adventures he's been on include
a month-long immersion in Buenos Aires, teaching tango to a Bollywood actress in Mumbai, India, and touring the U.S. with tango band Trio Folias. Despite this experience, he continues to have a vivid memory of what it was like to start learning this challenging dance and this aids his teaching in a profound way.

An eternal tango student, Avik has taken classes from dancers in many tango traditions. The teachers who have left their mark most clearly are
Gustavo Naveira, Susana Miller, Alex Krebs, and Robin Thomas. And in great measure, he has been guided by his experiences with his many talented students.

In his other life, Avik is nearing the end of his Ph.D. in
Environmental Psychology at the University of Michigan. If you're curious about what that is, feel free to ask--he enjoys trying to explain that almost as much as he likes to explain sacadas and boleos.

Patricia Greve

Patricia has become one of Ann Arbor's most sought-after DJs and instructors since moving there in 2005. A sensitive and delicately expressive follower, in teaching she emphasizes comfort and clarity of movement as essential bases for building a meaningful connection in the dance. She travels as often as she can, seeking ever broader tango horizons, but equally takes pride in contributing to the cultivation of her home community. Patricia has largely been influenced by her fellow dancers in Ann Arbor and by the many teachers who have passed through for festivals and workshops, but most of all credits her original teacher, Alex Krebs, with turning her on to tango's mesmerizing powers, making the dance at once magical, accessible, and irresistible.

Eli Leserowitz

Eli Leserowitz began to dance tango in New York City, launching him to what would become his life's passion. From the day he started dancing, he has not stopped for an instant. Eli is an exceptionally creative and sensitive dancer who is in a constant state of fascination with the structure of tango moves and music. Eli's unmistakable presence and unique style of dance made him one of the most recognizable figures in the milongas of New York.

After dancing for some time in New York, Eli began searching for new tango experiences. He began touring the United States taking classes with the best local teachers and Argentine masters who were visiting the US, and in 2008 Eli made his initial journey to Argentina, where he deepened his understanding of the tango in the milongas of Buenos Aires. Eli's particular style of dance was borne out of these experiences combined with his extraordinary autodidactic ability.

Eli is a thorough teacher, going to great lengths to convey the fundamental techniques and musicality of a movement to his students. He has an uncanny ability to incorporate the newest moves into traditional dancing. Eli's attitude of being a constant learner makes him an approachable and a widely popular teacher.

His enthusiasm for tango is contagious. He has taught at Princeton University (NJ), Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Hunter College (NY), and the University of Minnesota as well as at various milongas in the New York Area.

Eli's teachers and mentors are Robin Thomas and Brigitta Winkler. He has also studied with other celebrated teachers, including: Luis Bianchi & Daniella Pucci, Alex Krebs, Tomas Howlin, Homer & Christina Ladas, Nick Jones, Adam Hoopengardener, and Julio Balmaceda & Corina de la Rosa.

Lung-Kuei Lin

While quietly going about his business, Lung-Kuei has attracted both envy and affection throughout the tango community. The men want to dance like him, and the women like to dance with him. His immersion in the tango world has been a happy success.

An integral part of the U.S. tango scene, he runs off to the best festivals across the country with tremendous zeal. As a result, he’s one of the more sought-after leaders in the country, and has also developed a keen sensitivity toward what makes a milonga go well. Although his dancing is already very clean and quite musical, he’s constantly working to make it more musical, more precise, and more lovely for his partner. His most influential teachers have been Rebecca Shulman, Robin Thomas, Evan Griffiths, Diego Di Falco, and Silvina Valz.

Lung-Kuei started studying tango in 2005 and began deejaying in 2007. Gradually he built a solid reputation as a deejay and now he’s invited to spin tunes at the most popular and best milongas and practicas in town. Tango festivals fly him in to DJ. His choices are not strange: he just plays one good song after another, placed in sequence with sensitivity.

Lung-Kuei has zero attitude about what he does well, and always keeps a sense of humor about things, while remaining a serious milonguero, 100% dedicated to the craft, the life, and the music of tango.
